New Olympic Plans for McDonald’s
At the six-month out mark to the Beijing Games, McDonald’s reports that building, staffing and promotions for August 2008 are well underway.
Construction has already begun on one of the four official McDonald’s Olympic restaurants. By Games-time, there will be one in the Olympic Village, another at the Main Press Center, and two on the Olympic Green.
The 1,300 employees who will staff the restaurants have already been selected. The Olympic Champion Crew were chosen from McDonald's locations worldwide. They will be invited to blog about their experience, continuing a program begun in Turin.
Under a new program, McDonald's will bring 300 children – a third of them from mainland China – to Beijing to experience the Games and the city sights. The company has collected childrens' artistic and writing submissions to decide who will win the Olympic tickets. The selection process and journey for the Chinese children will be documented in a reality show by CCTV.
The fast food giant is also creating a new global TV commercial that celebrates the Olympic spirit.
