(ATR) - On the day the marketing program for the Beijing Olympics was launched, the English language version of the Beijing website has apparently been hijacked by a loan company in the U.S.
The home page www.beijing-olympic.org is now in the business of seeking borrowers for home loans, and variations of the address supposedly have been registered with a company selling internet domain names.
The website hijack comes as International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and other dignitaries gathered in Beijing to announce the start of the national marketing campaign for the 2008 Games.
While no figures have been released, Olympic marketing executives are confident that Beijing will set a record for national sponsorships, which would mean raising more than half a billion dollars.
Executives for the IOC and Beijing 2008 were not available for immediate comment on the website issue, but the rogue site probably won't last long once the breach catches their attention.
