(ATR) The 2017 edition of Olympic Day officially kicks off on June 23, but the worldwide celebration of Olympism is turning more into a month-long event.

The event concocted by the International Olympic Committee invites youths and adults alike to get active not just on Olympic Day, but throughout the month of June as well.

"Spurred on by a host of physical, cultural and educational Olympic Day activities organized by National Olympic Committees and International and National Federations around the world, millions of people of all ages and abilities will be moving, shaking, jumping and sweating during the month of June," the IOC says in a statement.

As the IOC notes, NOCs and IFs each host their own Olympic Day activities on or in the lead up to Olympic Day on Friday. The Summer 2024 Olympic host city candidates Los Angeles and Paris are also hosting large celebrations on June 23 to get citizens excited about the prospects of the Games in their city.

The IOC has also enlisted the help of several Olympians to promote Olympic Day, including Rio 2016 gold medalists Simone Biles and Justin Rose who shared their achievements via Twitter to try and inspire the next generation.

At the @Olympics, I did this! Hopefully it inspires you to get active for #OlympicDay on June 23rd.

What are you going to do? 💋 XO pic.twitter.com/qwzwDiNtE9

The IOC invites everyone who participates in Olympic Day this year to share their experiences on social media using #OlympicDay.

Intel and IOC on Verge of Partnership

Technology giant Intel is expected to announce a new partnership with the IOC on Wednesday, June 21.

The U.S. based computer chip maker is holding a press conference in New York City where the company will detail how it became the 13th member of The Olympic Partner program.

Intel's announcement follows McDonald's exit from the Olympic stage last week. The fast food company is ending its sponsorship three years before its deal would have ended but will still serve its burgers at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games next February.

The category for Intel is not clear, though it is expected the company will highlight the chip technologies that can heighten the spectator experience. The company is already using that technology as part of its sponsorship of Major League Baseball.

The shakeup in the Olympic TOP sponsors keeps the number of companies that can utilize the Olympic brand to 13, including Alibaba, Atos, Bridgestone, Coca Cola, Dow, General Electric, Omega, Panasonic, P&G, Samsung, Toyota, Visa and soon Intel.

IPC Presidential Campaign Begins

Three candidates are expected to be confirmed by the International Paralympic Committee to replace outgoing president Philip Craven this September.

Former Brazilian Paralympic Committee president Andrew Parsons, former Canadian Paralympic Committee president Patrick Jarvis and European Paralympic Committees president John Petersson have all been nominated by their respective NPCs to become the next IPC president.

The IPC has been vetting the nominees and will confirm their eligibility to run for president on Monday, June 19. Once confirmed, the candidates may begin their respective campaigns to replace Craven.

Craven finishes his mandate as IPC president on Sep. 8 in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. when the organization holds its General Assembly.

An International Olympic Committee spokesperson confirmed to Around the Rings that Craven’s IOC membership will end and that it will not be immediately passed on to the next IPC chief. This means the next IPC president will not have a vote in the Summer 2024 and Summer 2028 Olympic and Paralympic host city selection on Sep. 13 in Lima, Peru.

Calgary 2026 Committee to Present Report

The city of Calgary is one step closer to deciding whether to pursue hosting the 2026 Winter Games.

The Calgary Olympic Bid Exploration Committee (CBEC) has completed its months-long study on the feasibility of a bid and has turned it over to the Calgary City Council, as reported by Canada’s Metro News.

The CBEC, a volunteer group, completed its task on time and under budget as it spent only C$3 million of the C$4.7 million it was approved to spend.

According to Metro News, the CBEC, Calgary city administration and a city consultant will present a report to the council later on June 19. The final decision on whether the city will proceed with a 2026 bid won’t be revealed until July 24.
