(ATR) Russian PresidentVladimir Putin will address some of the biggest names in the international sports world at the inaugural World Olympians Forum in Moscow.
Putin, IOC President Thomas Bach, and WOA patron Prince Albert II of Monaco will officially open the forum on Oct. 21. An address from World Olympians Association president Joel Bouzou will follow.
"We want to thank Putin and all the members of the Olympic family in Russia for making the hundreds of Olympians attending the forum from around the world feel so welcome," Bouzou said in a statement on Tuesday.
"The Russian government and Russian Olympic Committee, under the leadership of IOC Member Alexander Zhukov, have made a great contribution to growing Olympism in Russia through the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games."
The WOA says 285 delegates from 115 countries will convene during the one-day meeting to exchange "best practices and discuss the topics of greatest concern to Olympians."
The agenda for the forum includes a panel discussion on "closing the gender gap" in sport, led by WOA board member Nancy Hogshead-Makar.
Sergey Bubka, vice president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, is part of a group leading a workshop titled "The rest of your life."
IOC members Prince Albert, Claudia Bokel, andU.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun are among Olympic leaders running the second panel discussion of the day: "Why the Olympic Games matter."
The forum will end with a discussion led by Olympic figures including IOC member Frank Fredericks, Russian pole vaulterYelena Isinbayeva, and Tokyo 2020 sport director Koji Murofushi.
A gala dinner will officially close the inaugural event.Around the Ringseditor Ed Hula isin Moscow for the forum.
