Virtual IF Forum Moved Forward to May 25

With‘Lessons We Are Learning from a Global Crisis and How Sport and Society Can Emerge Stronger’ as the theme, the 2021 IF Forum will be held entirely virtually on May 25.

The change in schedule from the conference’s traditional Fall timeline was announced by SportAccord to allow the SportAccord World Sport & Business Summit 2021, in Ekaterinburg, Russia, to be rescheduled for Nov. 7-12.

Now in its 15th edition, the one-day meeting of IF leaders and sports industry executives will be staged virtually via the Olympic Capital of Lausanne.

The IF Forum will kick-off with a welcome address by IOC president Thomas Bach and an opening address by Raffaele Chiulli, the president of SportAccord and the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).

"We are excited to connect with International Sport Federations worldwide for what will be a timely and important IF Forum 2021," Chiulli said.

"The IF Forum will be an outstanding opportunity for our community to come together to discuss best practice ideas as sport explores strategies to accelerate on the road to recovery."

Presentations, updates, case studies and panel sessions will all be provided covering several vital topics during the one-day virtual gathering.

IOC medical and scientific director Dr. Richard Budgett is among the guest speakers for the Forum. Additional expert speakers from across the global sports movement, including representatives of the IOC, umbrella sports associations and individual IFs, as well as sports industry executives, are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.

Aggreko Joining Forces With Host City

Aggreko will become the headline sponsor of the flagship Host City 2021 Conference, as well as Official Sustainability Partner of the Host City Americas 2021 Conference under a new partnership.

Thursday’s announcement is the latest between the two organizations, with Aggreko having supported Host City since it moved to Glasgow in 2015.

As part of the deal, David De Behr, Head of Sales - Aggreko Event Services, has been appointed Advisory Board Member for Host City.

De Behr, whose expertise includes developing energy solutions for events including the Olympics and Glastonbury Festival, will focus on helping Host City to develop its sustainability efforts.

"This partnership brings our two organisations even closer together after many years of successful collaboration, and demonstrates our collective commitment to leading carbon reduction efforts in event energy solutions," De Behr said in a statement.

Ben Avison, Editorial and Conference Director at Host City, said "The topic of how to stage sustainable events gets more prominent every year at Host City and we are pleased to provide a platform for Aggreko to share its leadership in the urgent field of carbon reduction. We look forward to shaping the agenda with David’s expert input, and to welcoming him to the stage alongside other world class speakers in Glasgow and the Americas."

The inaugural Americas event, which takes place virtually on June 29-30, is expected to bring more than 1,000 people together, including IOC members, sports ministers, mayors, International Federations and Organizing Committee leaders.

The 2021 edition of Host City will be a global, hybrid event held in Glasgow, Scotland on December 7-8. The format change is designed to build on last year’s first digital edition, combining the face-to-face interaction at Glasgow’s Technology & Innovation Centre with online connectivity.

More Sportel+ eTALKS Sessions

Sportel’s new virtual platform Sportel+ has two more of its eTALKS scheduled.

Sportel+ eTALKS, which the company says is designed to complement live events and connect with the community digitally, discuss evolving trends emerging from the pandemic and beyond.

The next two eTALKS are "Sports Business Opportunities in the US" on May 6 and "The Future of Sports Tech" in collaboration with SVG on July 8.

The first in the series was held on March 11 and focused on sports media rights and new broadcast strategies. The second one on esports took place on April 8.

Meanwhile, Sportel is preparing for the next edition of Sportel Monaco, scheduled for October 5-7, 2021.

Last year's edition had originally been pushed back from its traditional October spot to February 22-24, 2021. But in January it was decided to delay it again so that the event could be 100 percent face-to-face.
