(ATR) The United States Olympic Committee is "100 percent" behind the Boston 2024 bid.
In a statement provided to Around the Rings, USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun said that there is "no truth" to reports that Los Angeles is being considered for an Olympic bid.
"We are working arm in arm with our partners Mayor Walsh and Boston 2024 to deliver the best possible bid for the city of Boston and the Olympic and Paralympic movements," Blackmun said.
"We are 100 percent behind Boston’s bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Boston can deliver a great Games. There is no truth whatsoever to the rumor that we have asked them to stand down or that we are considering going to another city."
On May 18, USOC board member Angela Ruggiero said that there was "no guarantee" that Boston would submit a bid in September to the IOC. Ruggiero, along with Boston 2024 chief executive Richard Davey, were answering questions from the Boston City Council about the IOC reforms Olympic Agenda 2020.
"If Boston comes forward with a bid that doesn’t align with 2020, then you take yourself out of the race," Ruggiero said.
"Right now we need the strong support of Boston, but the USOC is in the phase where we’re hand-in-hand, we’re partnering. We want Boston to succeed, so we’re doing everything possible."
Boston 2024 will head to Lausanne next week to meet with the IOC as part of the "invitational phase" for 2024 Olympic bids. A revised bid plan is expected to be released in June, according to Boston leadership.
Boston, Budapest, Hamburg, Paris and Rome have expressed interest in bidding for the 2024 Olympics. National Olympic committees have until Sept. 15 to submit letters of intent for cities to bid.
