(ATR)Some federations hoping for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympics will celebrate, while others will have to put their Olympic aspirations on hold.
Following a series of meetings with the Tokyo 2020 Executive Board on Sept. 28, the organizing committee's Additional Event Program Panel will announce the sports chosen for inclusion in the 2020 Games.
In June, the panel shortlisted eight sports including baseball/softball, bowling, karate, roller sports, sport climbing, squash, surfing and wushu.
Final approval for Tokyo 2020's proposed additional eventswill come at the 129th IOC Session in Rio in August 2016.
Bach Returns From Trip to UN Headquarters
IOC President Thomas Bach is returning to Lausanne on Sept. 27 following a trip to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
On Sept. 25, Bachdelivered a speech at the UN General Assembly and met more than a dozen heads of state in his bid to enhance the status of sport in Sustainable Development Goals.
The IOC chief arrived in New York last Wednesday ahead of Saturday's UN Sustainable Development Summit 2015.Bach and Pope Francis were among world leaders addressing the assembly.
Four-time Olympian and IOC member Angela Ruggiero accompanied Bach on the trip.
First African athlete's forum
The first African athlete's forum is taking place in Marrakesh this week.
The Moroccan city will open the event on Oct. 3.
Athletes will gather in Marrakesh for a series of informative seminars through Oct. 4.
