Tokyo CoComm Tackles Big Ideas -- Photodesk

(ATR) The big ideas are out of the way, now it is time to fill in the details.

That was the theme of the fourth IOC Coordination Commission visit to Tokyo last week. There, organizers lauded the work Tokyo has done construction and organizational wise. Before the IOC visit, the different levels of government in Japan and Tokyo 2020 released a budget and details of responsibilities.

The CoComm heard presentations on the updated organizational plans, and began consulting with Tokyo counterparts on next steps. Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori downplayed any positive evaluations citing a number of key areas where details need ironing out.

A number of those details were left unresolved because of delays from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Governor Yuriko Koike saw her newly created party surge in elections this weekend, which could lead to fewer delays in action.

Mori told Around the Rings he was "very much interested" in the election outcome two days before voters took to the polls.

"The newly elected assembly members, they will have no change in terms of the level of interest in hosting the Games," Mori said. "That is the confidence I have."

Throughout the week CoComm members were taken to see updates on construction on the Olympic Village, National Stadium, and the site of the Aomi urban sports cluster.
