The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee today welcomed EF Education First Japan Ltd. (EF Japan) as a Tokyo 2020 Official Partner, the second domestic tier of the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme.

The company has been attributed the category "Language Training Services." Its addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 domestic partners to 39*, including 24 Official Partners.

Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori welcomed the new appointment, "It gives me great pleasure to welcome EF Japan as a Tokyo 2020 Official Partner. Providing omotenashi (Japanese-style hospitality) to the large numbers of athletes and sports fans from around the world who will be visiting Japan in 2020 is one of the most important tasks of the staff and volunteers who will support the Tokyo 2020 Games. EF has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in providing language services at previous editions of the Olympic Games, and I am confident that we could not have a better partner to support our language training efforts for the Tokyo 2020 Games. I very much hope that with this support, the Tokyo 2020 Games will serve as an opportunity to enhance English language abilities across the whole of Japan."

Junnosuke Nakamura, President of EF Japan, commented, "We are honoured to help Japan prepare for a successful Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. I would like to echo the sentiments recently expressed by EF’s co-Chairman Philip Hult, who said, "With the Rio 2016 Games just a few weeks away, EF’s passion for the Games burns bright. Our mission of ‘opening the world through education’ is closely aligned with the Olympic values and we are delighted to support Tokyo 2020.""

Notes to Editors:

About the Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme: The Olympic sponsor programme is divided into four separate categories, with the IOC’s The Olympic Partner (TOP) programme constituting the very highest level of Olympic sponsorship. The Worldwide TOP Partners who support the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games are Coca-Cola, Atos, Bridgestone, Dow, GE, McDonald’s, Omega, Panasonic, Procter and Gamble, Samsung, Toyota and Visa.

The three remaining categories are designated for domestic sponsors. The highest domestic tier comprises Gold Partners, the second tier consists of Official Partners and the third tier is made up of Official Supporters. Domestic sponsors will also be core components of Tokyo 2020’s Marketing Programme, and until 2020 they will be indispensable partners both for the successful delivery of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and as partners of Japan Olympic and Paralympic teams. Accordingly, they will be accorded the rights to use Olympic and Paralympic designations and imagery including emblems, mascots and slogans. In collaboration with all sponsors who take part in the Marketing Programme, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee will work to contribute to a brighter tomorrow for both Japan and the world.
