Tokyo 2020 brings the Rio 2016 Games celebration to people across Japan through a rich Live Site programme

The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government today announce the Tokyo 2020 Live Site programme “Rio to Tokyo,” which will take place during the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and across Japan as a foretaste of the next summer Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020.

The Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the Tokyo Metropolitan Governmenttoday announce the Tokyo 2020 Live Site programme "Rio to Tokyo," which will take place during theRio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo and across Japan as a foretaste of the next summerOlympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Tokyo in 2020.

The Live Sites will allow those in Japan who will not be able to attend the Games in Rio in person to cometogether and enjoy the Olympic and Paralympic celebration and cheer on their national and internationalsport idols. The two Live Sites in Tokyo will be located at Ueno Park, east side in Heritage Zone of theTokyo 2020 venue plan, and in a popular park of Tachikawa city in western Tokyo. In addition, theprogramme will also be hosted in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima – prefectures affected by the 2011disaster.

The Live Sites will feature live broadcasts from the Rio 2016 Games on large screens, as well as stageperformances and the audience will be able to experience the Olympic and Paralympic sports in real life.Fans will also have the chance to experience cutting-edge video technologies (only in Ueno), andpurchase official Tokyo 2020 memorabilia.

Koji Murofushi, Sport Director of the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, said: "The Rio 2016 Olympicand Paralympic Games are an important milestone for us, since it is in Rio that the spotlight will be handedover to Tokyo as the next Summer Games host."We are convinced that Tokyo 2020 Live Sites during the Rio 2016 Games will not only allow for peopleof all ages and all horizons to gather and celebrate sport and to transmit their energy to the athletes, butthey will also contribute to further promote sports as a driver of positive changes in our country. It is theinspiration that we want to share through Live Sites this summer and ultimately during the Olympic andParalympic Games in Tokyo in 2020".
