(ATR) The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games ticket lottery opens on May 9 for residents of Japan.
The Tokyo organizing committee announced on Thursday that applications to take part in the lottery for the initial offering of Olympic Games tickets will be accepted until May 28. Lottery results will be revealed on June 20 with ticket payments due by July 2.
Applications can only be made online through the Tokyo 2020 Official Ticket Website, which was launched in Japanese and English on Thursday. Pre-registration on the TOKYO 2020 ID portal is required to enter the lottery. To pre-register click here. An English version of the pre-registration page is not yet available, though Tokyo 2020 says it will be launched soon.
For those Japanese residents who are not successful in the lottery, tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning in the autumn of 2019. Ticket sales will be opened on a global basis in the spring of 2020, again on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those living outside the host country will have to wait until at least June 15 to purchase tickets through Authorized Ticket Resellers (ATRs). The ATRs will be allowed to begin promotional campaigns in their assigned territories on May 9.
The sales launch date for some ATRs may be after June 15. Tokyo 2020 organizers urge overseas residents to check with their respective ATR’s website. A list of the current ATRs can be found here.
Overseas residents will be able to purchase tickets from the Official Ticket Website beginning in the spring of 2020.
The website contains the latest information on the event line-up for each session of the Tokyo 2020, details of the different categories of tickets, their prices and seat maps, as well as ticket sales guidelines.
Paralympic ticket sales will begin in summer 2019.
