(ATR) Millions of Japanese residents who missed out on securing Olympic tickets in the first ticket lottery will get a "second chance" when organizers make more available in the coming months.

Tokyo 2020 tells Around the Rings that the organising committee has decided to make the additional ticket sales phase to allow people who were unsuccessful in the first lottery to try again.

The Tokyo 2020 ticketing website experienced troubles due to heavy demand for tickets in the first round of applications in May. More than 7.5 million applied for tickets; there are about 7.8 million tickets for the whole of the Games.

Details of how the lottery next month will work are still being discussed but the number and type of tickets available is likely to be limited.

Another lottery for Japanese residents is possible in the autumn 2019. Organisers are set to offer tickets internationally on a first-come, first-served basis through authorized ticket resellers next spring, although that ticket sales phase is alslo subject to changes.

Stadium on Schedule

The Japan Sport Council says construction of the main stadium for the Olympics is 90 percent finished following a two-and-a-half year build.

Grass does down next week, with the running track to be installed in August and September, according to Kyodo News.

The 60,000-seat stadium is on track for completion in November ahead of an official opening event on Dec. 21.

Tokyo’s National Stadium gets its first big test when it hosts the Emperor's Cup men's football final on Jan. 1.

The official Olympic test events at the stadium are the 2020 Japan Para Athletics Championships on May 2-3 and the Tokyo Challenge Track Meet from May 5-6.

Torch Relay Partner

Tokyo 2020 top-tier sponsor JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation (JXTG),Japan's leading energy company will partner the Tokyo 2020 Olympic torch relay. It will supply the gas for the torches used at the Games.

Yoshiro Mori, president of Tokyo 2020, said the energy provider "will be a key component in the operation of safe and smooth torch relay. The company will provide the gas that will power the Olympic torch, and Tokyo 2020 will continue working to deliver a flame that will never be extinguished in the hearts of all the people across Japan".
