(ATR) Millions of Japanese residents who missed out on securing Olympic tickets in the first ticket lottery will get a "second chance" when organizers make more available in the coming months.
Tokyo 2020 tells Around the Rings that the organising committee has decided to make the additional ticket sales phase to allow people who were unsuccessful in the first lottery to try again.
The Tokyo 2020 ticketing website experienced troubles due to heavy demand for tickets in the first round of applications in May. More than 7.5 million applied for tickets; there are about 7.8 million tickets for the whole of the Games.
Details of how the lottery next month will work are still being discussed but the number and type of tickets available is likely to be limited.
Another lottery for Japanese residents is possible in the autumn 2019. Organisers are set to offer tickets internationally on a first-come, first-served basis through authorized ticket resellers next spring, although that ticket sales phase is alslo subject to changes.
