The Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) has announced an exciting new sponsorship programme with existing partner Procter & Gamble (P&G) to celebrate the multi-national company’s 30th anniversary in Turkey.
TOC Vice-President Hasan Arat was the Olympic Committee’s representative at a press meeting at the Sofa Hotel in Istanbul, where the exciting announcement was made. Legendary Romanian gymnast Nadia Comanaci and Turkey’s Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Taha Akgul were also in attendance
The programme will see Olympic TOP Sponsor, P&G support 30 Turkish Olympic athletes who are hopeful of competing at the PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Games, and look to inspire future generations and their mothers. Through a series of television adverts the new initiative will highlight the important role mothers play in the progression of athletes from a young age and will also help raise the profile of various Olympic sports in Turkey.
The adverts will be broadcast to a national audience and will show the gratitude athletes have for the unconditional support of their mothers in their pursuit of Olympic glory. The TOC has a dedicated focus to supporting youth in their sporting aspirations, and are now expanding that support to a key component of a young athletes’ success – their mothers.
P&G have been operating in Turkey for 30 years and have had an association with the TOC since 2014. In addition to their global sponsorship of the Olympic Games, P&G has supported the Olympic Honours project, launched by the TOC the end of 2014, which was initiated to support Turkish athletes on their Olympic journey until the 2020 Games. P&G also published Turkey's first sports map in the framework of the Olympic Objects project
TOC Vice-President Hasan Arat said:
"I would first like to congratulate Procter & Gamble for 30 years of successful business in Turkey and thank them for their dedicated support of the TOC since the start of our partnership in 2012. This is an exciting project for the TOC and one we believe is long overdue. The mothers of athletes are the unsung heroes of sport throughout the world, and it is important to recognise and honour the role they play.
"Equally, it is a great opportunity for the 30 athletes who will be supported by P&G in the build-up to the PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Games and the influence they can have on aspiring athletes. This programme will make the sponsored athletes role models in Turkey and we are confident that they will be an inspiration for the next generation."
