IOC president Thomas Bach held a meeting on Thursday with Peter Maurer, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross,
Bach and Maurer met at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne to discuss increased cooperation in the future.
Both leaders are interested in a memorandum of understanding signed in 2003 calling for collaboration on projects placing sport as a tool for values-based education and development.
In particular, the agreement focused on areas affected by disease, armed conflict, and natural disaster.
The IOC and the ICRC will also work together to promote humanitarian values such as gender equality, volunteerism, tolerance and peace.
After the hour-long meeting, Maurer visited the updated Olympic Museum.
