Team Table Tennis World Championships Underway in Kuala Lumpur - Monday Memo

(ATR) Day two of the Perfect 2016 World Team Table Tennis Championships with the men’s team rounds two and three and the women’s team round three set to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Competition of the 54th edition of this tournament began on Sunday, Feb. 28 and will continue through March 6. Day three of the competition will begin the live television feed of the tournament. The championships will welcome 670 athletes in total from 99 countries.

Organizers say the week-long competition will be the "most social" table tennis tournament ever held with a larger focus on social media than ever before, according to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The ITTF says they expect to have more than 10 million fans view their content on social media platforms during the tournament.

The men’s and women’s team finals will take place on the final day of the tournament with a press conference to follow each victory.

IOC Exec Board Meets for First Time in 2016

The International Olympic Committee Executive Board will hold its first meeting of 2016 at the Lausanne Palace Hotel from March 1-3.

The EB will focus on the preparations for the upcoming Rio 2016 Summer Games now just five months away as well as the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer that came to a close last week.

The IOC will also discuss the implementation of Olympic Agenda 2020 in the bidding race for the 2024 Summer Olympics that has four cities vying to host the Games: Budapest, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome.

Each of the four cities submitted the first phase of their bids to the IOC in February under the IOC’s new bidding guidelines.

Pair of Rio 2016 Qualification Tournaments Head to Brazil

Both synchronized swimmers and women’s rugby sevens will compete this week to earn spots at the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympics this August.

The Olympic Games Synchronized Swimming Qualification Tournament 2016 will be held March 2-6 at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre.

Women’s rugby sevens teams will take to the pitch later in the week with the Aquece Rio International Women’s Sevens tournament set to begin March 5 and will conclude on March 6.

Track Cycling World Champs Begin in London

The International Cycling Union will host the 2016 Track Cycling World Championships at the Lee Valley VeloPark in London, England from March 2-6.

Racers will seek to bring home the title of world championship in a series of disciplines throughout the week with championship races taking place on every day of the competition.

The week begins with the men and women’s team sprint competitions and moves on to the men’s and women’s team pursuit races on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

The final day of competition will feature the women’s omnium as well as the men’s Madison disciplines.

Global Event Suppliers Converge in St. Augustine

The Association of Global Event Suppliers is holding its second annual conference in St. Augustine, Florida from Feb. 29 to March 1.

Many of the attendees were treated to a welcome reception the day before the conference officially began on Sunday.

Monday features a first class lineup of keynote speakers, including: USOC chief external affairs officer Patrick Sandusky, Toronto 2015 vice president of overlay and broadcast integration John Baker, Peru NOC president and executive of the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games Jose Quinones, IOC senior Olympic Games advisor Gilbert Felli, Populous senior principal and global chairman Gerald Anderson and Live Nation vice president of global operations Craig Evans.

The conference seeks to build awareness for industry-specific aspects and to promote and defend the interests of its members in the international event marketplace.
