(ATR) The Stockholm-Åre bid for the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games has one of Sweden’s largest companies in its corner.
Telecommunications giant Ericsson announced this week an agreement with the Swedish Olympic Committee that covers the candidature stage, which lasts until a 2026 host city is selected in June. Swedish medical technology company, Permobil, is also partnering in the bid.
"We very much support the Stockholm-Åre 2026 campaign and see an excellent opportunity to show our strength in innovation, and the important role our 5G technology will play in the future for the digitalization of Swedish industry and society," Helena Norrman, Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, Ericsson, said in a statement.
Stockholm-Åre and Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo are the only remaining 2026 bidders. The winning bid will be announced at the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne on June 24.
Lima 2019 Adds Two Sponsors
Lima 2019 announced the addition of two sponsors this week.
LATAM Airlines is now the Official Airline of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and will be responsible for transporting the delegations of athletes, technical officials and leaders of 13 of the 41 countries that will be competing in the multisport event starting in July. That is a total of 4,904 people.
LATAM will also be in charge of transporting the Pan American Torch, with the journey beginning at the ruins of Teotihuacan in Mexico, before being taken to Machu Picchu on a LATAM Airlines flight where it will start its expedition throughout Peru's major cities.
Lima 2019 this week also named Gloria, a leading brand of dairy products in Peru, in a gold-tier sponsorship deal that makes Gloria "Official Milk of the Pan American Games" with exclusivity in the Dairy Products category.
"Gloria is the first Peruvian company joining our effort to deliver the Americas’ greatest celebration of sport," said Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus in a statement. "This agreement comes at a critical time, as we officially open the first of our new, world-class sports venues – the baseball stadium last Sunday, and the San Marcos University football stadium on Wednesday."
Gloria Evaporated Milk products will carry the Lima 2019 brand between March and August, with an expected reach of over 7.5 million Peruvian families. Athletes from across the Americas will also be provided with Gloria dairy products during Lima 2019.
The deal also gives Gloria rights to produce and share video content featuring the Peruvian athletes who will participate at Lima 2019. Gloria is using its partnership as a platform to launch its new product, PRO – a protein shake for athletes designed to aid recovery and build muscle mass.
