Narita, Haneda Airports New Tokyo 2020 Partner
The two major airports for Tokyo will be partners for the 2020 Olympics and Paralympics.
Narita International Airport Corporation and Haneda Airport operator Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. were named tier two sponsors of the Games this week in the airport services category.The addition of the two new sponsors brings the number of domestic sponsors to 61.
Tokyo 2020 President Yoshiro Mori says that the airports will be important members of the sponsorship family.
"We are confident that these airports will create a wonderful first impression for visitors from around the world and provide a memorable, secure and hospitable gateway to Japan during the Tokyo 2020 Games," he said in a statement.
Tanaka Jewelry Means Bling for Tokyo
Tanaka Holdings, a century old precious metals and jewelry firm, will become a tier three sponsor of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.
The firm operates a chain of stores under the name Ginza Tanaka will hold the precious metals and jewelry category.
The company, founded in 1885, is known for its support of Paralympic sport.
"Our business domain is precious metals, and we work vigorously every day toward the creation of a prosperous society. Moving forward, as a Tokyo 2020 Official Supporter, we hope to contribute to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games by putting effort into realizing an inclusive society, creating a legacy for the future and developing sports in Japan," says Tanaka CEO Akira Tanae.
Haven Partners with Team GB
U.K. holiday park company Haven is now an official partner withTeam GB.
The sponsorship will include appearances by British Olympians at Haven parks around the country.
"Team GB will work closely with Haven to build on its existing offerings to boost momentum and excitement in the run up to Tokyo 2020, encouraging guests to come together and partake in a range of onsite games," says a statement announcing the deal.
Outgoing British Olympic Association CEO Bill Sweeney says "We’re proud to partner with such a well-known and liked British brand as Haven. The British holiday industry continues to be hugely in demandwith Haven’s approach to creating great, affordable family holiday experiences. We feel sure there is real overlap between loyal Haven customers and the Team GB fanbase," he says.
This week Sweeney announced he will be leaving the BOA to become the CEO of the Rugby Football Union, the governing body for rugby union in England. Sweeney has been at the BOA since 2013.
Société Générale in Partnership with Rugby Africa
Financial services firm Société Générale has entered a two-year partnership with Rugby Africa. The partnership is supposed to support the development of rugby in Africa, especially for women and young players.
Rugby Africa is one of the six regional associations of World Rugby, the international federation that oversees the Rugby World Cup as well as rugby at the Olympics.
"This partnership is the continuation of two of our long-term commitments: to rugby, of which we have been a reliable partner for over 30 years, and to Africa, with our Grow with Africa initiative, a program central to our priorities that aims to promote the sustainable development of the continent," says Société Générale Director of Human Resources and Communication Caroline Guillaumin.
