Coordination Commission to Hear Hotel Proposal
Rio de Janeiro mayor Eduardo Paes will apparently brief the IOC on a new proposal to house journalists during the Games.
Reports surfaced on Thursday that a complex that would house 3000 journalists for the Olympics would not be ready for the Olympics.
However, Around the Rings understands that Rio’s city hall is currently developing a solution and will discuss it with the IOC Coordination Commission when it meets in Rio next week. ATR also understands that Thursday’s news does not represent a long-term problem for Games organizers.
The Coordination Commission meeting is scheduled for March 19 – 21.
The complex was to be part of the renovation of Rio’s historic Port area. City Hall was leading the transformation of the area beforethe Games.
One Million Brazilians to Learn Second Language
More than a million Brazilians will be able to speak a second language for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
On Thursday, Rio 2016 signed a deal with Education First to become the "supplier of language training services" for the Games.
Under the agreement, EF will provide education services to Rio 2016 volunteers and staff, as well as Brazilian school children.
English will be the main focus of the education services, but French and Spanish lessons will be offered as well.
