Sixteen-year-old boxer Mariah Bahe is a six-time national champion with her sights set on competing in the Olympic Games 2024. The only girl amongst four brothers, she was born and raised on Navajo Nation in Chinle, Arizona (population. 4500). Growing up, Mariah watched her father train her siblings to succeed in and out of the boxing ring while longing for her own chance to compete. At the age of six, she began training with her father, stepped into the ring, and never looked back. Now, a new short documentary, Mariah: A Boxer’s Dream, follows Bahe –throughout 2020 en route to her National Silver Gloves tournament championship – in the quest of her Olympic dream.

The Olympic Channel original documentary Mariah: A Boxer’s Dream premieres on Thursday, 3 December on the IOC’s global media platform, available subscription-free at olympicchannel.com and its apps for mobile, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and the Roku platform.

Though she lives an isolated life on the Navajo Nation, with relatively few chances for competition, Mariah is undeterred and, along with her father Johnny, travels across the country to national tournaments. Her heart fiercely set on boxing glory and making her nation proud, Mariah: A Boxer’s Dream puts the spotlight on an inspiring young athlete resolute in her quest to be an example for other young Navajo women and indigenous people, everywhere.

"Growing up, I was always told there were things I couldn't do because of my gender, my age, and where I come from," said Bahe. "I hope that people that watch this film will better understand not just my story, but the story of the Navajo people. The world better get ready, because I'm coming and I'm ready to fight!"

Mariah: A Boxer’s Dream was produced exclusively for the Olympic Channel global digital platform by Outsider films and directed by Nina Meredith.

"Mariah: A Boxer’s Dream is a film about passion, dedication and perseverance – all things we look for in each of our original content productions," said Mark Parkman, general manager, Olympic Channel. "Powered by a unique journey and incredible ambition, Mariah embodies the values of Olympism that we hold dearly. Our team is honored to share her story with the world."

Offering year-round coverage of Olympic sports and elite athletes in their quest for success, the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Olympic Channel over-the-top (OTT) subscription-free streaming service is available worldwide in 12 languages at olympicchannel.com, its mobile apps and on connected TV devices.
