(ATR) The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone is making progress in the fight against Ebola.
On Friday, the IOC praised the Sierra Leone NOC for supporting the United Kingdom’s Joint Ebola Task Force by setting up an Ebola treatment facility in Freetown, Sierra Leone.
According to an IOC statement, the facility was built at an existing construction site at the Margai College of Education and Technology. The Sierra Leone NOC started construction at MMCET earlier this year as part of Sport Africa, a project designed to develop sport infrastructure throughout the country.
"Hundreds of lives could potentially be saved as a result of the swift approval by the NOC, coordinated by the IOC, to allow work to begin on the site at the MMCET," the statement claimed.
The UK government plans to build six Ebola treatment centers in Sierra Leone.
The country is among the West African nations to have been hit hardest by the virus, with the CDC reporting over 5,496 cases and 4,876 deaths in Africa alone.
