HSBC Paris Sevens winners Samoa are top seeds, but were drawn in a tough Pool A that also features Zimbabwe, Tonga and Ireland. Another core team on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, Canada will be hoping to join their women's team in qualifying for Rio and face Germany, Uruguay and Sri Lanka in Pool B. Russia, another series core team, will play Chile, Morocco and Tunisia in Pool C, while fourth seeds Hong Kong take on Spain, Mexico and South Korea in Pool D.
The action kicks off at 11:00 local time on 18 June at the iconic Stade Louis II in the heart of the Principality. Two teams from each pool will progress to the quarter-finals where it will be a straight shoot-out for progression into the final, which will be played at 18:30 on day two.
The battle for the final place alongside the 11 teams already confirmed for Rio 2016 (Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand, Great Britain, Argentina, USA, France, Kenya, Japan, Australia and hosts Brazil), together with the opportunity to represent rugby and their nation on sport's biggest stage will ensure a fascinating competition.
