Lima; 11 March 2018: Lima 2019 today announced that Sacyr Construcción S.A. has been appointed to build and renovate a number of venues for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.

The works, located in the Callao district, northwest of downtown Lima, will include: the remodelling of the University of San Marcos stadium; the renovation of the Miguel Grau Coliseum with a capacity for 2,400 spectators; and the construction of a new multisport complex with a capacity for 6,100 spectators, which can be extended by 500 more seats for specific events.

The University of San Marcos stadium will host all of the Lima 2019 football events, whilst the multisport complex will host taekwondo and volleyball for the Pan American Games, and para-taekwondo and sitting volleyball for the Parapan American Games.

Sacyr Construcción S.A. was one of 58 companies and consortiums that expressed interest in the tender for the works, for which seven were shortlisted.

The procurement process was handled by the UK Government, according to the terms of the government-to-government agreement signed with Peru in April 2016. The procurement process follows the UK’s New Engineering Contract (NEC) model and has allowed Lima 2019 to significantly speed up its infrastructure projects. The NEC model’s transparent, efficient approach has generated great interest from potential contractors.

Speaking on the appointment of Sacyr Construcción S.A., Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:

"We are delighted to have appointed Sacyr Construcción S.A. for the works in Callao. They submitted a strong proposal, which will provide world-class facilities for the athletes of the Americas to fulfil their potential in 2019.

"Lima 2019 is an investment in the future. The Games will leave a meaningful legacy for the people of Lima and Peru by delivering new sports facilities to underserved communities and kick-starting a culture shift in sports policy. For example, the University of San Marcos will benefit from a world-class stadium, which will be at the disposal of its students and capable of hosting international tournaments."
