(ATR) Vitaly Mutko, Russian deputy prime minister, says the hits that the FIFA brand has taken in recent years is affecting Russia 2018’s bottom line.

Mutko, who is also the head of the Russian Football Union, told Russian news agency Interfax that the organizing committee is having trouble securing sponsorships due to the "huge and big attack against FIFA." Mutko was asked about the situation by Interfax after the Financial Times reported on the dearth of sponsors for the next flagship FIFA tournament.

In addition, Mutko serves on the FIFA Executive Council, although his role as deputy prime minister will prevent him from running for reelection.

"FIFA has been accused of corruption and the like, they have ruined themselves. The losses in terms of image are colossal," Mutko said. "FIFA is running into difficulties not for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but in general."

Earlier this year FIFA reported that the body has lost $396 million from ongoing investigations and mounting legal costs. The body predicts similar losses for the year 2017 and is already dipping into cash reserves.

PKN Orlen has worked with the POC for the 2006, 2010, 2012, and 2016 Olympics.
