(ATR) Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman said he is excited for the media to share "how the city of Rio is changing" ahead of and during the Olympic Games.
Nuzman, with retired IOC member and head of IOC press committee Kevan Gosper, and IOC liaison Gilbert Felli delivered the opening remarks for the Rio 2016 Press Operations Briefing.
From Oct. 5-8,365 media representatives from around the world are in Rio de Janeiro to hear presentations on the state of media operations for the 2016 Games, see the progress of Olympic venue construction, and schedule one-on-one meetings to help prepare for next year’s event.
"Rio de Janeiro showed the city has more changes in the world in the Olympic history," Nuzman said to the assembled media personnel.
"We have opened the door to other regions of the world, and this is will be the future of all sports. All of you will come here to work and give the news from Rio for the Games and, for that. I thank all of you."
In his presentation, Gosper reminded organizers of the work that needs to be finished, and to take care of those who will report on the Games to those who will not be able to venture to Rio to see the city firsthand.
"It does not matter how you feel about your Games. It is the media who will be the judge of the success of the Olympics," Gosper said.
"You have a lot of tough work ahead of you, in this final but very important year. I believe these Games in Rio will be sensational."
Rio 2016 troubleshooter Gilbert Felli was quick to praise the organizers for making sure the Olympic preparations returned to being on track after harsh criticisms were lobbed at the organizing committee from IOC members in April 2014.
"You will be very surprised to see the quality of the advancement of the Olympic venues," Felli said.
"Come Games time, the venues will be ready."
After the opening remarks, the Rio 2016 press operations team began their presentations about the timeline for media operations for the final 10 months until the Olympics.
