(ATR) Quebec City is willing to talk about bidding for the Winter Olympic Games.

The mayor of Quebec City, Régis Labeaume, will be meeting with IOC president Thomas Bach in Lausanne on April 11 to explore the idea of a shared hosting of an Olympic Games as proposed in Agenda 2020.

Labeaume said in a statement that he remains opposed to a solo bid because of "the astronomical costs" involved but the Canadian Press is reporting that he has talked with Calgary, Vancouver and Lake Placid officials about a joint 2026 Winter Olympic bid and that a possible 2026 bid will be discussed with Bach.

So far, only Switzerland has announced plans to pursue a bid for 2026. Norway and Sweden are also considering bids. The city of Stockholm is expected to reveal its decision when it unveils the results of a feasibility study next month.

A European or North American city would seem to have an advantage in the bidding for 2026 since the next two Winter Olympics will be held in Asia.
