(ATR) Korea Railroad (Korail) is the latest sponsorship for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympics.
The agreement came this week with Korail receiving a number of marketing rights including the use of the PyeongChang 2018 logo.
PyeongChang 2018 President Hee Beom Lee said earlier this week that organizers were courting additional public companies to serve as sponsors for the Games. Lee’s comments came after PyeongChang 2018 surpassed its domestic marketing goals.
"Participation in the sponsorship of Korail will be a great help in preparation for successful conventions such as transportation and public relations," Lee said in a statement. "We will thoroughly review all preparations for the Pyeongchang Olympics. I will do my best to make sure."
The timing of the sponsorship is fortuitous as the tickets for the high-speed rail connecting Incheon International Airport and PyeongChang went on sale Dec. 1.
Trains will run 51 times daily according to a release from PyeongChang 2018. The journey from Seoul to the mountain cluster in PyeongChang is 67 minutes. The longest journey from Incheon airport to Gangneung is 100 minutes.
Tickets for international consumers can be bought here. The price of the ticket from Incheon airport to PyeongChang is $32. Spectators can also buy a pass that covers train tickets for the entire Games period of Feb. 1 to March 25.
"We want PyeongChang 2018 to be the most accessible Games ever and the railway connection to Seoul and Incheon Airport is a big part of that," Lee said in a statement. "Whether you are coming to join us for a day or a week, the train will get you to your destination and kick start your Winter Games experience in a memorable way."
IOC Sells Latin America Media Rights
América Móvil has been awarded the broadcast rights for Olympic Games in the 2018-2024 period for 17 Latin American countries.
The IOC announced the agreement in a release. Both the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games will be covered as part of the agreement. Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela are included in the rights agreement.
América Móvil Director of Strategic Alliances and Contents Arturo Elias Ayub said in a statement the group will "use innovative formats taking full advantage of technological developments to increase the awareness and interest" in Latin America.
"I am delighted that we will continue our partnership with América Móvil through to 2024 across Latin America," Thomas Bach, IOC President, said in a statement. "Our commercial agreements are critical for the development of sport around the world, as the IOC redistributes 90 per cent of the revenue it generates, including across Latin America."
