On November 18, the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) received a donation from GS Group to support the upcoming Olympic Games.
GS Group is an international holding company based in Seoul, Republic of Korea and comprises GS Holdings, subsidiaries and affiliates including GS Caltex, GS Retail, GS Shop, GS EPS, GS Global, GS Sports, and GS E&C.
The contribution will be used for PyeongChang 2018 operations which include Games preparations and administration.
The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 will take place on February 9-25, 2018 with approximately 95 countries and 3,000 athletes to be expected to take part in the first Olympic Winter Games to be held in Asia in 20 years.
In addition, the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place on March 9-18, 2018, with approximately 50 countries and 670 athletes competing.
POCOG President Lee Hee-beom noted, "We deeply appreciate GS Group’s decision to support the Games and help us deliver an event that the whole nation can be proud of." He continued, "We are confident that PyeongChang 2018 preparations will be improved and draw more public attention through the support of GS Group."
In response, CEO of GS Group Jung Taik-Keun commented "I hope PyeongChang 2018 can be an opportunity to show Republic of Korea’s strength by hosting a successful Games, which will be a significant national event as well as a global festival. GS Group will also cheer with the whole nation."
