(ATR) Sports fans, Olympic enthusiasts or just anyone with riveting ideas can contribute to PyeongChang 2018’s Torch Relay contest entitled "OPEN! Mission Relay."

The global contest launched by POCOG seeks to gather unique ideas based upon personal stories to be incorporated into the PyeongChang 2018 Torch Relay.

PyeongChang’s Torch Relay team, led by director of culture Ms. Sunyoung Lee, seeks contributions in four categories – potential torch relay routes, torchbearers, mode of transportation and creative content (videos, images, photos, music, etc.). Submissions can be sent to POCOG until the August 12 deadline.

"OPEN! Mission Relay" was launched 600-days-to-go to the Olympic Games to help promote PyeongChang 2018 and its torch relays, while gathering bright ideas from around the world," Lee said of the contest. "We are asking people to tell us their stories and incorporate that into ideas for the torch relays."

The best submissions will be included in the planning of the PyeongChang 2018 torch relay program and the winners – one representing the general public and one from the student group – will join the PyeongChang 2018 delegation at the Flame Lighting Ceremony in Olympia, Greece. The runner-ups will be honored as torchbearers.

New PyeongChang 2018 president Hee-beom Lee encourages winter sports fans globally to join the contest and impress the judges.

"PyeongChang’s "OPEN! Mission Relay" is a fresh approach to the iconic Torch Relay and PyeongChang 2018 aims to engage the passion of winter sports fans around the world in completing our project," Lee said.

"I look forward to being pleasantly surprised by bright and creative ideas that will make the 2018 Torch Relay even more special," said Lee, who replaced Yang-ho Cho as PyeongChang 2018 president last month.

Utilizing the popularity of Games ambassador and 2010 Olympic figure skating champion Yuna Kim, POCOG is promoting the international competition through theater commercials, TV and radio, press releases and cooperation with NAVER, the dominant portal site in Korea.

Upon conclusion of the contest on August 12, a review committee will score submissions and coupled with online voting, winners will be determined. The winner’s ideas will be included in the planning of the torch relay program.

PyeongChang 2018 will announce the concept, route, torch design and relay uniforms during the Torch Relay Launch Ceremony in Feb. 2017, and then proceed to choose the Olympic and Paralympic torchbearers who will parade the flame throughout South Korea.
