PRINCE FEISAL WELCOMES IAAF PRESIDENT TO JORDAN

Amman, Jordan: HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan OlympicCommittee (JOC), welcomed Lord Sebastian Coe, the President of the InternationalAssociation of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Dahlan Al Hamad, Asian AthleticsAssociation President, to Amman, Jordan on Thursday 16 November.

Lord Coe and Mr. Dahlan Al Hamad are in Amman for the Asian Athletics AssociationBoard meeting and were given a very warm welcome by HRH Prince Feisal, whoexpressed his gratitude to Lord Coe for his support to the Jordan Athletics Federationand the sport as a whole throughout the Kingdom.

The guests visited the JOC’s ‘Sporting Schools’ project with JOC Secretary General,Nasser Majali, who explained that the initiative will introduce thousands of youngstersto athletics and volleyball. So far, 100 children have been assessed and undergonemedical tests to ensure that they are able to compete in sport. More sports will beadded to the programme in the coming years.

The initiative was praised by Lord Coe, who recognised its potential to not only instillthe spirit of sport into Jordan’s youth, but also the opportunity it provides to discovernew talent, which could be developed through to elite level.

The guests also attended an honouring ceremony, hosted by the Jordan AthleticsFederation, for the medalists of the 2017 Arab Athletics Championships, which washeld in Tunisia in July, as well as other athletes who achieved success in 2017.
