A splinter national Olympic committee in Pakistan is appealing to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to help solve an impasse with the IOC-recognized NOC.
At issue is a dispute over a government ruling that prevents sports leaders from serving more than two terms as president. Arif was recently elected to a third term, then a Pakistani court ruled that he was ineligible to represent himself as POA president. A rival POA was later established.
Pakistan’s Tribune Express newspaper quotes a source with the rival POA saying: "We feel that the PM should directly deal with Hasan, who is conspiring against Pakistan.
"The deadlock is hurting our sports badly and this issue must end soon."
Officials from Pakistan were reportedly scheduled to meet with the IOC on May 21 about the situation.
In April, the IOC harshly criticized the Pakistani government for failing to adhere to promises made to work together to end the gridlock. The IOC Executive Board warned that if no resolution is reached prior to the July EB meeting, the POA would be suspended.
