(ATR) The 2017 Peace and Sport International Forum will feature Khalida Popal – former team captain of Afghanistan’s women’s football team – as the key speaker.
The forum which begins Dec. 6 in Monaco has the theme of ‘Sport Innovation for Social Transformation’. The forum will take place at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and is the 10th anniversary of the forum’s creation.
Not only will Popal be a headline speaker, she will also lead a panel titled ‘Urban regeneration through sport’. The panel will focus on the challenges of culture changes in sport for women while highlighting Popal’s own battles against discrimination.
"For me, sport became an opportunity to escape the conflicts and persecution around me. It then became an opportunity for all women throughout our country, and we were able to make a more peaceful society through sport," Popal said in a statement.
Peace and Sport Founder Joel Bouzou says he is highly anticipating her speech during the forum.
"Khalida Popal is an inspirational figure, not only in the world of sport, but in the wider peace process," Bouzou said. "This year, the International Forum will be a real force for change around the world.
"We are bringing together the best minds from the peace-through-sport movement to share good practice, exchange knowledge and discuss real-world actions. As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, it promises to be the most memorably Forum so far."
Media accreditation is now open for the Peace and Sport International Forum. The three-day event will take place from Dec. 6-8.
Coliseum Gains Three Partners
International stadium conference Coliseum nabs BWA, Rossetti and Beijing Vanguan Sports & Culture Industry as partners less than two weeks before the conference begins.
Coliseum Summit ASIA PACIFIC takes place in Beijing from Oct. 25-26. Coliseum is a global series of stadium and arena business conferences as well as an online venue news platform. According to organizers, the platform is "dedicated to the various challenges of designing, constructing and operating of sports venues all around the world."
The two-day summit will take place at the home of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, the Bird’s Nest Stadium. Beijing’s National Stadium is co-hosting the event with China Sports Venue Association Company.
BWA is the German Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade that was founded in 2003. The association’s member companies come from a variety of industries including stadium architecture, event venue management and professional sports.
Rossetti is an architectural and design firm which specializes in sports, entertainment and retail. Vanguan Sports is a new company founded in Beijing by leaders of global sports facilities and culture entertainment.
The partners are seeking to use the conference platform to capitalize on future international sporting events in China, such as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and potential 2030 FIFA World Cup bid.
Host City 2017 Speaker List Extended
PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee president Hee Beom Lee and London 2017 IAAF World Championships director of operations Pierce O'Callaghan are among the latest speakers listed for the Host City 2017 conference.
The two will be speaking along with WADA president Craig Reedie,FIBA secretary general and IOC member Patrick Baumann, FIS/AIOWF secretary general Sarah Lewis and more.
"Host City is a really good conference involving cities that want to host events. Anything that can be done to put sport and cities together at an early stage is a good idea and I look forward to this happening in Glasgow and Beijing," Reedie said in a statement.
Host City 2017 will take place at Glasgow's Technology and Innovation Center in Scotland from Nov. 28-29.
"Every year we are immensely honored by the level of speakers who choose to participate in Host City and 2017 has already surpassed all expectations," said Host City conference director Ben Avison. "With senior representation from the owners, organizers and hosts of the world’s greatest events, Host City 2017 is set to be the best Host City ever."
The conference will focus on how cities and organizers can work together to bid and host sustainable events. Events can range from sports championships to business expos and more.
Both conferences will give the International Olympic Committee the opportunity to sit down with, and better understand, future host cities as the bidding process for the Winter Games undergoes revisions.
