(ATR) The City of Paris tells Around the Rings a request to French Presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron to move his election celebration will not affect the city’s 2024 Olympic bid.

"In each presidential election, candidates select a place in advance where they could celebrate their victory," the City of Paris tells ATR. "The City of Paris explained to Emmanuel Macron’s team that he could choose any place in Paris, except the Champ de Mars, because this site is protected."

The Champ de Mars is a large open area bordered by the iconic Eiffel Tower at one end and was the site Macron originally intended to hold his celebration. However, the city says a large event on the field could easily damage it before the International Olympic Committee 2024 evaluation commission visit from May 13-16.

The city hopes to put its best foot forward when the 13-member IOC delegation arrives to inspect its plans and venues for the 2024 Olympic bid. The City of Paris says Macron’s team was amicable to the request to move the event to the Esplanade du Louvre in central Paris.

"The team of Emmanuel Macron understood this very well and chose another site, near the Louvre Museum," the City of Paris says. "There is no disagreement on this.

"This does not change the support of Emmanuel Macron for Paris 2024. As you may already know, all the candidates in the presidential election announced their support for the bid of Paris 2024, without exception."

As for the upcoming IOC evaluation visit, Paris says it is "well organized for the IOC members and journalists to have a great time".

Paris is competing with Los Angeles to host the 2024 Summer Olympics with the host city election nearing on Sep. 13 in Lima, Peru. Los Angeles will host the IOC delegation for three days immediately prior to the inspection visit to Paris.
