C’est fait. Sans grande surprise, le conseil d’administration du COJO Paris 2024 a donné son feu vert à une révision de la carte des sites de compétition. Réunis mercredi 30 septembre à Saint-Ouen, ses membres ont ratifié les changements annoncés depuis plusieurs semaines.

Le nouveau dispositif ressemble de moins en moins au projet initial, présenté et vanté pendant la phase de candidature. Certains le regretteront, en Seine-Saint-Denis surtout, département resigné à laisser partir l’un de ses biens les plus précieux, la natation course. Mais Tony Estanguet et son équipe l’ont expliqué sans relâche : le monde d’après impose rigueur et austérité.

Le principe, d’abord. Il se veut simple : faire autant avec moins. Tony Estanguet l’a expliqué mercredi, au terme du conseil d’administration : « Notre ambition est maintenue, elle est très forte, avec la volonté de célébrer un évènement unique, exceptionnel, mais aussi de continuer sur cet objectif de responsabilité, de sobriété, d’engagement populaire. Il nous faut réussir à garder le même nombre d’épreuves sportives, mais en les organisant dans moins de sites, car cela représente une source d’économie importante. »
