(ATR) The Paris 2024 bid committee projected its new logo on the Arc de Triomphe on Tuesday.
Paris 2024 CEO Etienne Thobois told Around the Rings thousands of people turned out for the spectacular logo unveiling.
"It's open, it's colourful, it's joyful, it's symbolic. You can draw it yourself. Everyone can actually play with it," he said.
"It's also one of the big messages we want to send to the people - it's your bid. It becomes something we share and that can evolve."
The emblem incorporates the shape of both the Eiffel Tower – arguably Paris’ most recognizable symbol – and the number 24, symbolizing the year the city is bidding for the Games while also paying tribute to the last Olympics hosted in the city in 1924. The reveal also occurred at exactly 20:24 Central European Time.
"As we progress in our campaign to host the Games in 2024, it is wonderful to be here in the heart of the city with thousands of Parisians and people from all over to world to see our bid logo displayed on an iconic global landmark," said Paris 2024 co-chairman Bernard Lapasset.
The emblem was designed by Paris design agency Dragon Rouge and will be displayed on flags and street dressings across the city beginning Wednesday.
The logo reflects all of the colors displayed on the Olympic Rings and is a modern interpretation of the Eiffel Tower that reflects the "city’s status as a modern, dynamic and cosmopolitan global hub", according to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo.
"The colors and style of our bid emblem also evoke Paris’ great diversity and our commitment to promoting this across France and around the world in line with positive Olympic values," said co-chairman Tony Estanguet.
Parisians and people across the world are now invited to submit their own digital versions of the bid logo and submit their designs to the Paris 2024 Facebook page.
"Our Paris 2024 identity reflects that we are a city and nation on the move, a place that offers the world a warm welcome and a destination that can create a wonderful Olympic celebration in 2024," said Hidalgo.
Paris is competing with Budapest, Los Angeles and Rome to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The IOC will decide the host city in September 2017.
