The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Bid Committee has launched a Generation 2024 Committee as part of the bid’s commitment to engage and mobilise young people in Paris and across France.

Comprised of 24 17-26 year olds from varying backgrounds, the Generation 2024 Committee will enable the next generation – the primary benefactors of a Paris 2024 Games – to shape the project and make a significant input to the direction of the bid.

The Generation 2024 Committee met for the first time yesterday at the Cité universitaire de Paris – a symbolic hub of youth and culture in the centre of the city with 12,000 students from 140 countries. The Committee is made up of athletes, students, representatives of NGOs, representatives of Paris 2024 stakeholders and members of civil society.

The Committee will play an important part in the bid campaign and it will also have a role in the organisation of the Games if the Paris 2024 bid is successful. The Committee will:

Help to grow the existing high levels of support for the bid among young people across Paris and France Participate in key campaign moments Help shape and implement the digital strategy of the bid Encourage dialogue around the bid among the youth population in France Formulate proposals in relation to the bid plan and legacy, becoming a voice for young peopleParis 2024 Co-Chairman, Tony Estanguet, said:

"Young people will be the primary benefactors of an Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris so it is vital that we engage them properly in our bid. The Games present us with a unique opportunity to place sport truly at the heart of the lives of young people and we are delighted to launch the Generation 2024 Committee to help us achieve this goal. Sport serves as central pillar to our community and hosting the Games in 2024 will further embed its values in everyday life in Paris, creating a strong social legacy for the youth population."

Paris 2024 Co-Chairman, Bernard Lapasset, said:

"The inaugural meeting of the Generation 2024 Committee at the Cité universitaire de Paris – home to 12,000 students from 140 countries – is a wonderful symbol of youth and international culture. Paris is a city that sets trends and it is important that we look to future to create a dynamic bid making use of the wonderfully creative young people in Paris and France who can contribute significantly. We are looking forward to working with the new committee to drive the bid forward with fresh ideas and concepts."

Sinatou Saka, journalist and Generation 2024 Committee member, said:

"Young people in Paris and across France have a lot to offer to the Paris 2024 bid and I’m honoured to be part of the Generation 2024 Committee that will help bring the Games to our city. We aim to bring new ideas and concepts to the project reflecting the energy and dynamism of Paris.

Manon Petit-Lenoir, Gold Medallist in Snowboard Cross at Lillehammer 2016 and Generation 2024 Committee member, said:

"I was extremely proud to participate for France in my first Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer and it would be an incredible honour to play a part in bringing the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Paris in 2024. I know that young people across France feel very positively about the direction of the project but it is still very important to connect them with the bid and receive their contributions. I can’t wait to get started."
