Dans le monde d’avant, le COJO Paris 2024 aurait dû se présenter en force aux Jeux de Tokyo 2020. A quatre ans de son événement, l’équipe parisienne avait ciblé le rendez-vous japonais pour mener une mission d’observation, déployer sa communication, faire découvrir à ses partenaires privés l’ambiance olympique. Et, en guise de digestif, recevoir le drapeau aux cinq anneaux le soir de la cérémonie de clôture.

La pandémie de COVID-19 a fait voler en éclats ses beaux projets tokyoïtes. Ils sont repoussés d’une année. La crise sanitaire a également attaqué à la hache le plan marketing du comité d’organisation. S’en remettra-t-il ?
