(ATR) Leaders of Panam Sports want to create three new events for the Americas.

Pan American Games in the Junior, Youth and Beach categories are the three projects in progress. A two-day meeting of the Panam Sports executive committee in Miami will come up with a strategy to implement this expansion of sports properties of the 41-member continental association. Billed as a workshop, the meeting ends Tuesday.

This month is the deadline for bids to stage the first Pan Am Junior Games scheduled for 2021. Meant for athletes under 21, the champions would qualify directly for the Pan-American Games of Santiago, Chile,in 2023.

Colombia, Mexico, and El Salvador are bidding. The winner will be determined in March during the Executive Committee meeting in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Panam Sports president Neven Ilic is leading the Miami workshop, which will include leaders of the continental sport confederations.

"The workshop will provide members of the Executive with a platform where they can conduct a more detailed evaluation of Pan Am Sports plans and priorities beyond an official meeting," says a statement to Around the Rings.

The first gala of Panam Sports is also on the agenda in Miami. Planned for December, the ceremony will salute the winners from the 2019 Panam Games in Lima, now just six months away.
