(ATR) Pakistan’s political and Olympic leaders are heading to IOC headquarters in Lausanne, hoping to prevent a suspension of the Pakistan Olympic Association.

The meeting is scheduled for June 19.

The IOC says the government of Pakistan has interfered with the autonomy of the POA. The Olympic Charter says all national Olympic committees must be free of government interference.

Adding to the troubles, a rival POA was started with government backing, but not IOC approval.

Pakistani media report that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has commanded the government-aligned POA to avoid a suspension of Pakistan.

In April, the IOC Executive Board said if Pakistani officials could not resolve their differences by the July EB meeting, the POA would be suspended.
