Oslo 2022 Unveils Logo

Oslo’s bid for the Winter Games released its official logo and "visual profile" Friday.

The logo is based off a Nordic design and is entitled "Nordic Simplicity."

"The visual profile is for many the first impression of the Oslo Olympic application and determines how our message is received," said Oslo Olympic commissioner, Hallstein Bjercke in a statement.

"It is playful, innovative and eye-catching and will be noticed, both at home and abroad."

Oslo is competing with Almaty, Beijing, Krakow, and Lviv to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Summer Berths Reduced for Boxing Championship

Just 23 of 250 boxing berths for the 2016 Olympics will be up for grabs at the 2015 World Championship.

The event, to be held in Qatar, will send the three medalists in five divisions, the finalists in three divisions, and the champions in the two heaviest divisions to Rio de Janeiro.

By contrast, more than 70 Olympic tickets were punched at the 2011 World Championship in Baku. Most divisions sent their top eight fighters to London.

The remainder of the spots this time around will be determined by results in semi-professional competitions, continental classifications, wild cards, and other events, according to Prensa Latina.

Start Date Set for Deodoro Work

Work on the Rio’s second Olympic Park will begin in 2014.

The park is located in the Deodoro area, which will host 11 disciplines at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Construction is expected get underway in May.

Nawal El Moutawakel, head of the IOC’s Rio coordination commission, said there is still much progress to be made at a press conference in Sochi.

"A number of unsolved issues remain with regard to the full alignment of government support," said Moutawakel, according to the AP.

"Significant and tangible progress has been made. But constant supervision and assistance will be required over the coming months."
