(ATR) Oslo today launched a new logo and website to reflect its status as a candidate city for the 2022 Olympics.
The announcement comes one week after the IOC named the Norwegian capital as a finalist in the Winter Olympic bid race alongside Almaty and Beijing.
Eli Grimsby, CEO of Oslo 2022, said the logo, which incorporates the Olympic rings, "reflects our core values – urban and close to nature, playful and responsible, generous and ambitious".
Norwegian company Snøhetta Design developed the logo and the visual profile on behalf of Oslo2022. The biggest change from the applicant city logo is a move to use the color palette of the Olympic rings.
In a release sent out Monday, the Norwegian bid said: "With the IOC’s announcement of Oslo as a 2022 candidate city, the City of Oslo and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (Norwegian NOC) will continue their genuine efforts to deliver unforgettable, yet sustainable Games, that will contribute to responsible development of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement and the Olympic family.
"Over the last two years the City of Oslo and the Norwegian NOC have made extensive and unprecedently detailed bid preparations,"it added.
"The capital of Norway can host most of the disciplines, on both snow and ice, within the city limits. Lillehammer will host the alpine events, along with bobsleigh, luge and skeleton."
Oslo 2022 on Monday also launched its revamped website www.OL22.no. In the year before the IOC vote at the Session in Kuala Lumpur, the bid will use the website to share the latest news about its bidding activities.
The bids from Almaty and Beijing are expected to launch their new candidate city logos in the coming days.
