Ukraine President Wants 2022 Olympics
Viktor Yanukovych, president of Ukraine said he wants the 2022 Olympics to come to his country.
Yanukovych was quoted by local media telling the Council of Regions, a presidential advisory group, the Carpathian Mountains would be a suitable site for the Games.
He said there is "a lot of time before 2022, a lot of things have been done, but still more has yet to be done."
Ukraine staged some football matches during the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. It will also stage the UEFA tournament in 2012 with Poland.
The IOC will vote on the host at the 2015 IOC Session.
Ukraine National Olympic Committee president and IOC member Sergey Bubka was not available for immediate comment.
Federal Probe Possible into Armstrong, Former Team
The U.S. federal government may investigate Lance Armstrong and his former cycling team, Team US Postal Service.
According to media reports, federal prosecutors are considering whether they can investigate Armstrong and his teammates for fraud. At issue is if he and his teammates used performance enhancing drugs bought with sponsor money, coming from a government agency, to improve their results.
From 1996 – 2004, the USPS provided $8-10 million to its cycling team. Armstrong rode for the team from 1998 until 2004.
Royal Wedding for IOC Member
Jordanian IOC member Prince Feisal and Sarah Bassam Kabbani are now married following a May 24 ceremony.
Faisal was married once before but divorced. This is Kabbani’s first marriage.
Kabbani serves as managing director for Generations for Peace, the non-profitestablished by the prince.
The wedding took place at Zahran Palace.
Francois Besson, 63, Judo Federation Sports Director
Francois Besson, who served as Sports Director for the International Judo Federation died Tuesday, he was 63.
Besson is survived by his wife Isabelle and his son Alexandre.
He was on the French national team from 1069 – 1970.
Sergey Soloveychik, the President of the European Judo Union said: "On behalf of EJU I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of our friend and colleague. Francois was a great man - true judoka... He and his family are in our thoughts and prayers".
