Olympians including Simone Biles, Nadia Comaneci, Bart Conner and Ashton Easton and Paralympian Candace Cable joined Nicole Kidman, Cuba Gooding Jr, Christian Slater, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Campbell and other Hollywood stars on the red carpet on Saturday at the annual "Gold Meets Golden" event, a fixture of the yearly Golden Globe awards weekend, showing how LA can bring entertainment, popular culture and sport together to connect the Olympic Movement with the next generation.
LA 2024 bid leaders underlined the Golden Globe Awards, which alongside the annual Academy Awards headline Hollywood’s star-studded awards season, as an example of LA’s experience at hosting large-scale, world-class events that reach a global audience, on a regular basis. The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, presented by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), celebrate the very best of film and television and were held Sunday evening at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills. Widely considered one of Hollywood’s biggest nights, the Golden Globe Awards are viewed in more than 236 countries worldwide.
Gold Meets Golden co-Founder Charley Cullen Walters said: "2017 was our best event yet. These moments that occur between the Globes nominees and Gold medal Olympians, Paralympians and pro athletes are priceless, and we were able to take ten lucky athletes to the actual Golden Globes carpet where they elated TV and film stars who are equally impressed and inspired by their greatness."
