(ATR) Alin Petrache is the new president of the Romanian NOC.

The chair of the Romanian Rugby Federation defeated two other candidates, Octavian Bellu and Elisabeta Lipă, in elections at the Olympic committee’s general assembly on Thursday.

The 37-year-old, a former captain of the Romanian rugby team, succeeds Octavian Morariu as head of the NOC.

Last month, Morariu resigned as chairman of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. He had held the post for10 years and quit to meet the new commitments he has taken on since becoming an IOC member in September.

He was appointed to the IOC’s international relations commission and the program commission.

Petrache’s mandate runs until 2016.
