(ATR) Emmanuel Macron is expected to hold his first meeting with members of the International Olympic Committee on Sunday in Paris.
The President of France was elected on May 7 over rival Marine Le Pen, just one week prior to the IOC 2024 evaluation commission visit to the Olympic bid city.
A 13-member delegation led by FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann will arrive in Paris on May 13 before beginning a three-day inspection of the city’s Olympic plans on the 14th.
Macron will meet the delegation at the Petit Palais Museum on Sunday evening where a welcome reception for the IOC members will be held, according to BFMTV. The reception immediately follows Macron’s inauguration as the next leader of France.
Around the Rings has asked the IOC to confirm that a meeting will take place with Macron but the request has thus far gone unanswered.
The meeting marks Macron’s first active promotion of the Paris 2024 Olympic bid although he has voiced his support for the Games during the campaign.
While Macron is expected to make an appearance during the IOC inspection, U.S. President Donald Trump will not be attending the IOC visit to Los Angeles taking place from May 9-12. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told ATR that President Trump will not make the trip to the west coast but he is actively seeking a private meeting with IOC president Thomas Bach in the coming weeks.
Paris and Los Angeles are the only two contenders remaining in the 2024 Summer Olympic bid race. The IOC evaluation commission will provide a detailed report of their inspection of each city to the remaining IOC members at the 2024 Candidate City Briefing in Lausanne from July 11-12.
The IOC will choose the host of the 2024 Olympics at its Session in Lima, Peru on Sep. 13.
