Ferrari Exec to Lead Rome 2020

Automobile execLuca Cordero di Montezemolo is expected to take over Rome 2020 this week.

A formal announcement on the composition of the bid leadership is planned for Wednesday as part of Rome's two-day "state of the city" program.

Montezemolo , 63, is chairman of Ferrari, a post he took in 2010 after six years at the helm of Turin-based Fiat.

Ernesto Albanese, a former director general of the Italian NOC, is expected to serve as director general for the bid.

Last Chance for Women’s Ski Jumping

Women's ski jumpers make another attempt at landing on the Olympic program this week when the Nordic world championships kick off Tuesday in Oslo.

It's after this competition that IOC president Jacques Rogge will decide whether to add the event in time for Sochi 2014.

Women's ski jumping was turned down twice by the IOC Executive Board in the run-up to Vancouver, and backers of the sport were unsuccessful with litigation in the Canadian courts.

The IOC said the sport did not have enough elite jumpers, a notion the International Ski Federation has fought to remedy with this season’s first-ever women’s World Cup.

Cross-country and Nordic combined are also on the program in Oslo. Events run through March 6, but the women’sski jump will begin and end Friday at the city’s famed Holmenkollen hill.

Tuesday Talk

Around the Rings caught up with International Judo Federation president Marius Vizer on the sidelines of this month’s record-setting Grand Slam in Paris.

Check this week's edition of Tuesday Talk for his thoughts on prize money, IJF reform and who truly makes the sporting world go round.

Rest for the Weary

After back-to-back visits to Annecy and PyeongChang, the IOC Evaluation Commission gets the week off.

Around the Rings will be on the scene in Munich next week when the 11-member delegation returns to work for the final leg of its whirlwind inspection tour of Olympic host candidates.
