Paralympics Wrap Up

London 2012 dishes out medals in 18 of the 20 sports on the Paralympics program this week before coming to a close Sunday evening.

Some 4,200 athletes from 164 countries are in the British capital for competition across 503 events.

Munich Ceremony

IOC members, NOC officials and government dignitaries from both Germany and Israel will pay homage to victims of the 1972 terror attacks Wednesday in an annual ceremony at Munich’s military airport.

"It will be all about the relatives and survivors," a spokesman with Germany’s NOC tells Around the Rings.

After a short opening, the 600 guests will take part in an oecumenic service held by a rabbi, a Catholic and a Protestant priest. Among the evening’s speakers is Israeli vice president Silvan Shalom.

Representing the Olympic Movement will be Israeli NOC president Zvi Varshaviak and secretary general Efraim Zinger, German NOC director Michael Vesper as well as IOC vice president Thomas Bach of Germany, Israeli IOC member Alex Gilady and Walther Tröger, who served as mayor of the Olympic Village during Munich 1972 and remains an honorary member of the IOC.

Mountain Bike World Champs

UCI’s mountain bike world championships wrap up this week in Austria.

After four cross and downhill finals last weekend in Leogang, the cross-country, cross-country eliminator and time trial events follow Thursday through Sunday in nearby Saalfelden.

Office Closing

Around the Rings headquarters in Atlanta will be closed Monday for Labor Day.

Normal business hours will resume Tuesday.
