Olympic Village Opens
The first delegations begin arriving Monday in London for check-in at the Olympic Village.
Around 10,500 athletes from 203 National Olympic Committees are competing in the Games.
IAAF Centenary
Centenary celebrations for the International Association of Athletics Federations take on a new sense of formality this week as the IAAF officially turns 100 years old Tuesday.
Representatives of the 17 member federations who founded the world governing authority for athletics at the close of the 1912 Stockholm Olympics will gather again Monday for a special commemorative dinner in Monte Carlo, home to today’s IAAF headquarters.
The centerpiece of Tuesday’s festivities is a private garden party hosted by honorary International Athletic Foundation president Prince Albert of Monaco as he leads the Principality in a daylong celebration, complete with a special Monegasque postage stamp to be issued in commemoration of the occasion.
London Welcomes Torch
The Olympic Flame arrives in London on Friday, a week ahead of the Games.
The torch relay will crisscross the city and surrounding boroughs before arriving at Olympic Stadium for the July 27 opening ceremony.
IOC EB Meets
Members of the IOC Executive Board get to work a week before the Games begin.
Meetings on Saturday and Sunday will include reports from various IOC commissions and updates on preparations for the imminent Olympics in London and upcoming Games in Sochi, Rio de Janeiro and PyeongChang as well as Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing and Lillehammer.
