IOC EB Meets

Around the Rings will be on the scene in Lausanne this week for the IOC Executive Board’s first meeting of the Olympic year.

Tuesday will be devoted to updates from IOC commissions and administration while Wednesday will bring reports on London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016 and PyeongChang 2018 as well as the recent Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck and the 2014 Summer YOG in Nanjing.

EB members will also discuss the Indian Olympic Association and its precarious leadership situation, ATR is told. Suresh Kalmadi stepped away from his responsibilities as IOA president following corruption allegations around his organization of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. However, he has yet to relinquish the role to acting president VK Malhotra.

BOA, CAS Hearing

The British Olympic Association will defend its controversial doping by-law Monday in London before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

If CAS upholds the World Anti-Doping Agency’s ruling that the by-law is not compliant with the WADA Code, the BOA would have to drop its Olympic lifetime ban for athletes sanctioned for drugs violations. This would open the door for athletes such as cyclist David Millar and sprinter Dwain Chambersto make Team GB and compete at London 2012.

CAS is expected to announce its decision at the end of April, ATR is told.

London Assembly

The impact of the 2012 Olympics on London’s transport system is the topic for a Tuesday meeting of the London Assembly’s Transport Committee.

Among the scheduled guests are Hugh Sumner, Director of Transport for the Olympic Delivery Authority; Richard George, Director of Transport for LOCOG; and Mark Evers, Director of Games Transport for Transport for London.

Sport Security Conference

ATR will be on the scene – and on the speaker lineup – for this week’s 2nd International Sport Security Conference in Doha. Sessions run Wednesday and Thursday at Qatar National Convention Centre.

In the meantime, listen to this ATR podcast with International Center for Sport Security executive director Helmut Spahn for a preview of the event.
