Golden 25 Begins

The class of 2013 for the Around the Rings Golden 25 takes shape beginning Monday.

The list of movers and shakers who will have the most influence on the Olympic Movement for the year ahead is an ATR tradition dating back 17 years.

Expect spots 25 through 12 to be unveiled this week with a new No. 1 announced Jan. 1.

2020 Sports Pitch IOC

It’s show time for the seven sports bidding to join the 2020 Olympics.

Cable wakeboard, karate, roller sports, squash, sport climbing, wushu and a joint pitch by baseball/softball are the candidates facing a decision of the IOC Executive Board in May 2013.

After a series of inspection visits to major championships throughout 2012, members of the IOC Program Commission hear presentations from the sports Wednesday at the Palace Hotel in Lausanne.

USOC Board Meets

The working group named to study the options for a future Olympics bid reports this week to the USOC Board of Directors.

The meeting will take place Wednesday and Thursday in Redwood City, California, headquarters city to Electronic Arts, which is led by USOC chairman Larry Probst.

The group is supposed to review the options for a new bid from the U.S. for either Summer or Winter Olympics. As the USOC Board has ruled out a bid for 2022, the 2024 Summer and 2026 Winter Games are those up for immediate consideration.
