Bidding for 2020, Beyond

Cities interested in hosting future Games – and those already bidding for 2020 – are guests of the IOC this week at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

Does the IOC demand an Olympic Park? What kind of installation is required for an Olympic Village? Must an Olympic swimming pool be covered? Must the swimming venue even be a pool?

These questions and more will be answered when the IOC hosts its first-ever forum for interested candidates to receive highly detailed information about bidding for both the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games.

Following the aptly titled "Bidding for the Games" seminar running Tuesday and Wednesday, IOC experts as well as past Olympic organizers will stick around Wednesday and Thursday to brief 2020 applicants Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome and Tokyo on the long road ahead to decision day in September 2013.

Around the Rings will be on the scene all week.

Tuesday Talk with Peace and Sport

This week’s Tuesday Talk is with Joel Bouzou, founder and president of Peace and Sport.

ATR sat down with the four-time Olympic pentathlete as the fifth annual Peace and Sport International Forum came to a close Friday in Monaco.

Check back Tuesday for Bouzou’s take on the power – and limits of sport to end turmoil.

New Innsbruck 2012 Ambassador

A new Winter Youth Olympic Games ambassadorwill be unveiled Wednesday at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.

Olympic champion figure skater Yuna Kim, already a WYOG ambassador for Innsbruck 2012, will join IOC president Jacques Rogge for the occasion.

The announcement comes with just 10 weeks to go until the opening of the inaugural Winter YOG.

Weightlifting World Champs

The world weightlifting championships kick off Saturday at Disneyland Paris and run through Nov. 13.

The event doubles as the sport’s primary qualifier for the London 2012 Olympics.
